A
little oasis – well,
it looked that way for people from parched Brisbane.
We thought we were doing well to arrive at Sandy
Creek in the late afternoon but, when we arrived,
there were already a lot of our RR crew there.
Together
with the Sunshine Coast Land Rover Club, our
convoy consisted of:
| Nev
and Wendy |
Graeme
and Desley |
| Joanne
and Robert |
Tony
and Susie |
| Lynton
and Lois |
Peter
|
| Merv
and Carmel |
Derin
and Yolanda and family |
| Abigail,
Dean and Nelson |
Clive
and Mary |
| Richard
and Deidre |
Brent
and Dawne |
It
was a little chilly the Friday night but the
raging fire toasted those who rotisseried
themselves until bedtime. We awoke to a beautiful
sunny day and it wasn’t long before
Brent and Dawne arrived. That made
a total of 3 Range Rovers, 6 Discoveries, a
Defender and a (ahem) Nissan. While the Brent
and Dawne set up camp, seven vehicles headed off to
do Track 10 – with Graeme diving in and out of cars
to take heaps of action photographs. It’s an interesting
track with twists and turns, rocky bits and
dirt patches. We were very happy with the way
our swan performed with its newly transplanted diesel
heart. Everyone lined up for the obligatory
End-of-Track salute then headed back to camp
for lunch. It was a bit of a decadent afternoon
as most of us went in convoy to the Nirvana
Estate vineyard for a spot of wine tasting.
As we bought the odd bottle or two, we were
given an extra one ‘for later on’. We
had a pleasant scenic tour around the countryside before
finding ourselves back at Sandy Creek.
A
few of us decided to work up an appetite with a game
of cricket so the stumps were set and some fairly
slack rules saw the game start. Dawne was our
first batter and proved to be a pretty good scorer however
all the players took turns at
batting, bowling and generally messing
around between drinks.
Richard was a limping runner with
both achilles tendons still
recovering from a previous incident, then Graeme
retired hurt and spent
the rest of the evening soaking up
the ministrations of
whomever he could convince to pamper him. There
was quite an audience from afar but a
lot of people obviously didn’t trust
themselves to face the bowling of Brent, Tony
or Peter or felt they couldn’t match the batting
prowess of Susie.
Happy
hour saw some of the Nirvana wines opened
and a delicious range of nibblies to accompany them
shared amongst our group. ‘Later on’ arrived
and our ‘freebie’ bottle of wine was raffled– and
won by Nelson. Mum had said just a few minutes before
that she would just check out the prize she was going to win – and they did!
Following
a not so cold night with the most fabulous clear
sky to view the stars, we woke to yet another hot
day. Brent and Dawne led a morning trip outside
the camp but several of us packed up and made
our way home before the crowds blocked the
routes back to the city (!).
Once
again, it was a lovely weekend with good
company in a very pleasant environment.
What more could anyone want?!!
