This
was the Club's 5th Christmas in July and with 56 adults and
11 children, it was a 'balltearer' of a weekend.
(THAT word was used expressly for Beth!)
Trip
leaders Graeme & Desley led the advance party of
several vehicles from Aratula, after the mandatory bakery stop
for morning tea. We arrived at our destination
just before lunch and were delighted to hear the voices of the
Edwards (whose trip north had been cut short due
to a vehicle problem) and the Locks (who were on their way home
from their trip) over the CB informing us that
they would be joining us for the weekend.
The
afternoon & evening saw the arrival of more club members,
their extended families and friends. The roaring fire enticed
us to enjoy nibbles & Desley’s gluwein
(Sue’s original
recipe, of course!) before heading back to our respective campsites
to organize dinner. Overnight temperature
a balmy 6.4 degrees. Saturday saw the arrival of Disco’s,
Rangies, a Nissan and yes another “Bugger,!!” with
lots of hellos and hugs for those catching
up again Post holiday adventures were discussed, with the
Robert
and Joanne showing a DVD of their recent trip to the Cape.
Afternoon
tea was supplied by Mr Peter Perfect who baked two 'Potato'
cakes. They were delicious!! (By popular request, the
recipe will follow this article.)
Santa duly arrived early in the evening on his Harley, no
less and the kids enjoyed running after him and receiving
their gifts. Poor Santa, all he wanted
was a young lady aged between 18-25 to sit on his knee and
tell him what she wanted for
Christmas. Sorry Santa, no luck there!!!
We
all enjoyed our Christmas dinner of roast pork/beef vegs and
deserts, sitting at tables decorated with Christmas cloths,
bon bons, decorations and sweets.
The weather remained kind with just a few brief light
showers. Temperature overnight down
to
only 4.6 degrees.
Desley
was a very relieved lady when, on Sunday morning, she managed
to find her diamond stud earring which she
lost in
the grass the night before. I think
the purchase of a lottery ticket would be in order, Desley!!! Our
cooked breaky was wonderful Sunday morning, even though
many of us thought that we would not be able to
do it justice. How wrong we were!! After
an easy pack up on Sunday, we left only a few people
behind who had decided to stay an extra night. A
big thank you to Aaron from Down Under Camping who supplied
all the gifts for our raffle. We raised
in excess
of $160.00 for the club. A marvelous
effort.
This
was a weekend that bought everyone together in the true spirit
of Christmas. The venue was excellent (especially
those hot showers), the company great and a big thank you
to Graeme & Desley.
Sue (Oh what a feeling!!)
